Subsequently, they decide to obtain the proper license and start a family. Episode 1 focuses on Youni and Ko, who struggle to survive in the societal underclass. While scavenging in a water conduit, they discover a ring that has fallen from the affluent upper levels. Their investigation reveals the ring is a government-issued item with no monetary value, though it does contain data. Ko devises a method to convert this information into currency. He proposes they use the funds to escape the slums and rise to the upper stratum. After agreeing on a rendezvous point, Ko departs to secure the money. Youni heads to meet him but is cornered by a group of augmented men. She had believed her past of selling her body to endure this harsh and cruel world was over, but the men offer no mercy for an act she did not seek.
