After a stray sheep guides shepherd Cain Asbell into a cave, he frees a trapped fairy named Elise. This act leads him to rescue Princess Charlotte, abruptly elevating him from obscurity to the status of a lord. His new title comes with a critical condition: he must make his territory the most prosperous in the nation within five years. Failure would strip him of everything, returning him to his former life. Success, however, would earn him Princess Charlotte's hand in marriage. His youth makes him a target for exploitation, facing threats from slavers and bandits. As a lord, he also holds the privilege to select companions. These include Tsubaki, whose body sometimes acts independently of her will; Tia, who is devoted to the man who saved her; and the emotionally distant Chiffon.
